Weekly U.S. beef export sales surge
Exports of U.S. beef are continuing their upward trend, according to statistics released by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF). During the week of June 13-19, U.S. beef export sales exceeded those for the same week in 2003 – the last pre-BSE year – by 12 percent, reaching 14,700 metric tons (32.4 million pounds). more
 

U.S. beef return may intensify South Korean protests
South Korean police said on Monday they have detained more than 100 people for violence at weekend rallies against a U.S. beef import deal, with tensions expected to rise this week when the product returns to stores. more
 

Ranching workshop aimed at improving wildlife habitat
All the tools may be in place for ranchers to make more money off their land, they just need to learn how to diversify and utilize what is there, say Texas AgriLife Extension Service agents. A workshop, Ranching Aimed at Wildlife Habitat Improvement and Diversification of Enterprises, known as the RAWHIDE program, will be held on July 17 in the Miami School Cafeteria in Miami. more
 

Weekly crime watch 6-30-08: thieves make off with cattle, solar powered pump equipment
Special Rangers Joe Rector, Jim Vanover and James Bond, working in Oklahoma, East and West Texas report cattle and equipment stolen from their districts. In most of the cattle theft cases, the cattle were branded, which will aid in the recovery of those animals. A rancher in Upton County is short a working water well due to thieves stealing a solar-powered submersible pump, the pipe, wiring and the solar panels to power it.
