Means, Sherron and Welch voice support for South Korean beef trade
With the final opening of the South Korean border to U.S. beef Thursday, industry leaders are cautiously optimistic this will once again establish a flow of American beef to the South Korean market and open new avenues of export. Three TSCRA leaders have voiced their support for the opening of South Korean beef trade and the opportunities this could provide for producers: Jon Means, Dick Sherron, and John Welch were quoted in a recent Associated Press article praising
the opening of the South Korean market, and the new opportunities gained with re-establishing trade with a country that was once the third largest importer of U.S. beef. more
Sen. Hutchison: Supreme Court decision a "major victory" for individual rights
U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Texas' senior Senator, today applauded
a Supreme Court ruling in the case of DC v. Heller, affirming the intent of the Founders that the right to bear arms is an individual right protected by the Constitution. The decision is the first major Supreme Court ruling on a Second Amendment challenge to a firearm law since 1939. more
Farmers, ranchers eligible for help as part of disaster declaration
Farmers and ranchers affected by fires and high winds earlier this year could be eligible for emergency loan assistance from the U.S. Department of
Agriculture's Farm Service Agency. Ten counties, including Young County, comprise the primary disaster area. In addition, 53 contiguous counties are included in the natural disaster area for damages and losses caused by fires
and high winds beginning on Jan. 1, 2008.
