Cattlemen urge Senate committee to re-evaluate renewable fuels policy
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee holds a hearing June 12 to examine the relationship between renewable fuels mandates and food prices. In written comments submitted to the committee, NCBA President Andy Groseta makes it clear that while consumers are feeling the pinch from the rising cost of many foods, livestock producers are bearing most of the burden when it comes to meat production. more
 

K-State's Beef Stocker Unit testing a promising animal ID system
Thanks to research taking place at K-State's Beef Stocker Unit, modern-day cowboys could soon be using a bit of old-fashioned science to fight disease in the feedlot by researching the effectiveness of a new radio-frequency identification ear tag that takes the animal's temperature. Elevated temperature is thought to be a precursor to the onset of disease. more
 

CEUs available for brush control workshop on June 20 in Kingsville
Attendees completing the brush control workshop on Friday, June 20, will earn 5.5 continuing education units (CEUs) toward their pesticide applicators license. The Kleberg-Kenedy Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Brush Control Workshop will be held at the Dick Kleberg Park, in the Recreational Building, Highway 77 at Escondido Road, in Kingsville. more
