TSCRA representatives participated in a Texas Ag Forum hosted by Texas A&M University June 9 in Austin. The focus of the forum was the food and feed vs. fuel debate and speakers included university experts, farm and ranch group economists, and biofuels representatives. more
 

Total red meat production sets all time record high in 2007
Total red meat production for the United States totaled 48.8 billion pounds in 2007, 2 percent higher than the previous year. Red meat production in commercial plants totaled 48.7 billion pounds. On-farm production totaled 135 million pounds. Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas accounted for 51 percent of the United States commercial red meat production in 2007, similar to 2006. more
 

Kendall SWCD hosts Land Stewardship Tour at Hillingdon Ranch
The Kendall Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will be hosting their Land Stewardship Tour of the Hillingdon Ranch, 346 Giles Ranch Road, near Comfort, on Fri., June 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop is $15 for one person or $25 for two people and covers lunch and materials. The tour is limited seating, so pre-registration and payment are required in advance. more
 

Meetings will explain values of feedyard manure
The value of manure to area cropping systems will be explained at two July meetings sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Cattle Feeders Association. Both meetings will be on July 10: the first from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The O'Laughlin Center, 502 S. Brandt, in Spearman; and the second from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Texas AgriLife Research Station north of Dumas near Etter. The meetings are free and open to farmers, ranchers, feedyard owners and managers. more
 

TDA Market Recap, 6-9-08
For the week ending June 7, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were mostly steady to $4 per hundredweight higher. However, some locations were as much as $5 lower late in the week, when sharply higher grain prices pressured the market. Fed cattle prices were lower. more
