Still no CRP haying/grazing decision
The wait by livestock producers who were hoping to gain access to Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres for hay and livestock feed via grazing will have to wait another couple days. Tuesday's hearing in U.S. District Court in Seattle didn't result in a final decision as USDA and the National Wildlife Federation remain at odds over the level of CRP acres that should be utilized via the Critical Feed Use (CFU) effort. Another hearing as been set for Thursday morning. more
 

Hurricane preparedness for livestock
Livestock owners should "hurricane-ize" their livestock each year, Texas AgriLife Extension Service officials advise. "With the right preparation, you can protect livestock from injury should a hurricane occur," said Dr. Joe Paschal, AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist in Corpus Christi. more
 

Large-animal vets dwindling in number
A shortage of large-animal veterinarians in rural Oklahoma, as well as throughout the Midwest, has a number of people shaking their heads and searching for answers. About 500 counties across the U.S. have large populations of food animals but no veterinarian who lives in the county to treat them, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. more
 

Oklahoma drought relief
Help is on the way for drought-stricken counties in the Oklahoma Panhandle as the U.S. Department of Agriculture issues a disaster declaration in a total of nine counties. more
