Agriculture groups file amicus brief to allow "critical feed" use of CRP acres
TSCRA, by working with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, has joined the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Pork Producers Council, the Public Lands Council and other groups in filing an amicus brief in support of USDA's order to allow haying and grazing of CRP acreage.
This action was triggered when the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) was granted a temporary restraining order July 8 blocking the grazing and haying of CRP set-aside acreage. NWF claims that the USDA violated the procedure for this order because it did not conduct an environmental impact assessment nor seek public comment prior to issuing the order. A hearing will be held on Thursday, July 17 to decide on the action.
The amicus brief would present information and testimony on behalf of parties the ruling may affect that aren't directly involved with the case, and will be filed today.
