Beef Quality Assurance programs in
session
Beef
producers can get free training to help them become more competitive by
attending upcoming Texas Beef Quality Producer programs in Falls City July 22 or
Edinburg July 23. The Texas Beef Quality Producer Program teaches the principles
of Beef Quality Assurance, a proven system of sensible management practices that
help improve the quality and safety of beef. Although the programs are free,
persons planning to attend are asked to RSVP, so planners can prepare for the
right number of participants. more
Agriculture groups file
amicus brief to allow "critical feed" use of CRP
acres
TSCRA,
by working with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, has joined the
American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Pork Producers Council, the Public
Lands Council and other groups in filing an amicus brief in support of USDA's
order to allow haying and grazing of CRP acreage.
This action was triggered
when the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) was granted a temporary restraining
order July 8 blocking the grazing and haying of CRP set-aside acreage. NWF
claims that the USDA violated the procedure for this order because it did not
conduct an environmental impact assessment nor seek public comment prior to
issuing the order. A hearing will be held on Thursday, July 17 to decide on the
action.
The amicus brief would present information and testimony on behalf of
parties the ruling may affect that aren't directly involved with the case, and
will be filed today.
Update to
Comptroller's office guide service and hotel occupancy tax
situation
Last week we reported
on a situation
concerning a letter from the Business Activity Research Team in the Texas
Comptroller's Office going out to those that may provide hunting and/or fishing
guide services. The subject of the letter concerned the hotel occupancy tax, as
well as the sales and use tax, for services provided during a time period of
June 2004 to June 2008.
TSCRA has been working
on this issue and has learned that those that received a letter from the
Comptroller's office will be receiving a follow-up letter with further
information. If you received a letter and do not receive the follow-up letter,
please call the Comptroller’s office at 800/688-6829.
