TSCRA Young Leadership Series workshop a big success
A special thanks to Micro Beef Technologies for sponsoring TSCRA's inaugural Young Leadership Series, held July 8-9, at the Omni Southpark Hotel in Austin. 43 participants between the ages of 19 and 40 came from all over Texas to learn about becoming a valuable resource for the beef industry and TSCRA. Topics covered included an update on federal and state issues, the state legislative process, and how to effectively communicate with elected officials and members of the media. Participants also attended a TSCRA Political Action Committee event held at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion, where they met with other TSCRA members and many elected officials. Temporary restraining order suspends CRP use
On July 8, 2008, as the result of actions taken by the National Wildlife Federation, a Federal judge granted a temporary restraining order against the haying and grazing of certain CRP acres, nationwide. A notice from Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer had been issued less than two weeks earlier to provide that certain acreage enrolled in CRP would be available for hay and forage after the ending of the primary nesting season.
TSCRA is aware of this injunction and is working closely with National Cattlemen's Beef Association and other industry partners on the issue.
