TSCRA president testifies in front of House Agriculture and Livestock Committee
TSCRA President Jon Means, Van Horn, testified in front of the Texas House of Representatives' Agriculture and Livestock Committee today in Austin. Means outlined the negative impacts the production of grain-based ethanol has had on the cattle industry, including the diversion of corn to fuel production instead of toward feed for livestock. The testimony was in response to the committee's interim charge to study and evaluate the feasibility and potential economic impact of biofuel production from alternative feedstocks.
South Korean doctors hold U.S. beef-eating event to dispel mad cow disease fears
Sitting at tables with built-in grills, leading South Korean doctors and
business executives ate U.S. beef on Wednesday in a bid to dispel public health fears. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a major business lobby, co-organized the event without government help in an effort to end the "useless argument" over U.S. beef so that the nation can concentrate on overcoming economic difficulties. more
G8 leaders release statement on global food security
The White House press office has
released a joint statement by the leaders of the G8 – a forum
for the governments of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United
Kingdom and the United States -addressing
the threat to the global food security caused by rising food prices and
availability problems. Some of the measures taken into consideration to combat
the threat include a global partnership in trade relations and stimulating
world food production. more
Texas public hunt applications now online
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be conducting special drawings for hunts and applications for these quality, affordable hunting experiences are available online now. Application booklets are also being mailed to last year's primary hunt applicants and will be available at TPWD law enforcement offices. more
