Comptroller's office sends out guide service back-tax notice
It has come to TSCRA’s attention that a letter from the Business Activity Research Team in the Texas Comptroller's Office has recently gone out to those that may provide hunting and/or fishing guide services. The subject of the letter concerned the hotel occupancy tax, as well as the sales and use tax, for services provided covering a time period of June 2004 to June 2008.
We are in contact with the Comptroller's office about the matter, and they are working on releasing a clarification as soon as possible. We will pass along any information we receive as soon as it becomes available.
Mid-year forage assessment helps in decision making
With dry conditions across most of Texas, now is the time for livestock producers to evaluate available forage for grazing, according to conservationists with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Livestock producers who are following a grazing management plan will be in a better position when conditions are not optimal. more

Regional meetings for the Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan will begin in
Big Cabin (Mayes County) August 7. The purpose of the regional meetings is to consolidate and prioritize water issues and to help set the agenda for the
planning workshops. The water plan will not be a regional water plan, but will be a comprehensive statewide plan. more
Johne's disease prevention, control risk assessment brochures free to producers
Research shows that one out of 10 animals moving through livestock auction facilities has Johne's disease. But beef producers are not alone in their fight against Johne's disease. A recently released brochure outlines steps producers can take to help prevent and control the organism known to cause Johne's disease—and this brochure is free to beef producers and veterinarians. more
