TSCRA names new special ranger for district 15
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association has named Marvin C. Wills Jr. special ranger for District 15. He will be stationed in Gatesville, and his district will include the counties of Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, and McLennan. more
 

Cattle Raisers join other livestock groups to support availability and proper use of livestock medications
TSCRA joined six other livestock producer organizations in Texas in support of the current Animal Drug User Fee Act (ADUFA) law, which expires Sept. 30, 2008. TSCRA's leadership opposed legislative changes to the law, "such as efforts to ban certain food animal antibiotics. A top priority for all livestock producers is the health and well-being of our animals..." more
 

CME Daily Livestock Report: corn and soybean acres – planted & harvested
Cost-weary livestock producers got a bit of good news June 30 with USDA's estimate that 87.3 million acres of corn have been planted and that 78.9 million will be harvested. The planted acres are nearly 1.7 million higher than the average pre-report estimate. But an acre planted is certainly not an acre harvested and USDA presently predicts that only 90.4 percent of planted corn acres will in fact be harvested. more
 

Commissioner Staples announces approval of "crazy ant" treatment
The Texas Department of Agriculture has been granted approval by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to issue a Section 18 crisis exemption allowing the use of fipronil (Termidor SC) to control the crazy ant species (Paratrechina spp.nr. pubens/fulva) in designated counties. more
 

TDA market recap, 6-30-08
For the week ending June 28, 2008, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were higher with the average for 500-600 pounds steers up by more than $5 per hundredweight. Fed cattle prices also increased in response to higher grain and beef prices. Corn and grain sorghum markets were higher on continued concerns about weather in the Midwest and higher oil prices. more
