TSCRA announces appointment of executive director of association services
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) announced today the appointment of Tim Niedecken as TSCRA's executive director of association services. With a rich background in the cattle industry, Niedecken comes to TSCRA from serving most recently as marketing manager for Micro Beef Technologies. more
 

Cattle numbers keep dropping: prices headed back up
Better days are likely ahead for the cattle industry as numbers keep dropping as producers adjust inventories downward in the face of high feed and forage prices. At mid-year the number of all cattle and calves was modestly lower than the two previous years, with total inventories near the lows of 2004. Beef cow numbers have dropped about 1 percent this year, reflecting continued discouragement from calf prices below the cost of production. more

With the exception of sub-Saharan Africa, most of the developing world is moving toward mass-marketed food that includes more meat consumption. more
 

USDA again accepting comments on minimum age requirements for the transport of animals rule
USDA is reopening the comment period for the proposed rule that would amend the Animal Welfare Act regulations by adding minimum age requirements for the transport in commerce of animals. This action will allow interested persons additional time to prepare and submit comments. more
