TSCRA, National groups respond to HSUS criticism of auction market cattle
handling
At noon today, the Humane Society of the United States
(HSUS), a long-time critic of animal agriculture in this country, released a
video and news release calling attention to the alleged mishandling of downer cattle at livestock auction markets in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Texas. National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA), TSCRA and Livestock Marketing Association (LMA), responded to the report on the incidents in the
four auction markets, putting these cases into the larger national perspective. more

House hearing on property rights and eminent domain
TSCRA Director
Bennie Bock of New Braunfels testified Tuesday in front of the House Land and
Resource Management Committee at the Capitol in Austin. Bock testified on the
Private Real Property Rights Act and on compensation to landowners in eminent
domain proceedings. more

Kathleen Hartnett White, former chair of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and current member of the TSCRA Natural Resources and Environment committee, recently spoke out in favor of a proposed freeze and waiver toward the renewable fuel standard. "A growing mountain of evidence reveals the economic and environmental folly of federal ethanol policy. Perry's requested 50
percent waiver and Hutchison's proposed freeze on the renewable fuel
standard (RFS) would alleviate the pressure on corn for fuel. Texas is only beginning to see the rising food prices that federal ethanol policy could generate..." more
Texas crop, weather (5-7-08)
Most of the western parts of the state remained drought-stressed, while the northern and eastern parts of the state saw some relief, according to reports from Texas AgriLife Extension Service agents across the state. more
