Beef Industry Town Hall Meeting tonight in Gonzales
The Beef Industry Town Hall Meeting for Tuesday, Apr. 22, will be held at Gonzales Livestock Market, 3142 Hwy 90-A West, Gonzales, Texas. Producers do not have to be a member of any industry organization or association to attend. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a free meal will be served at 6:00. Presentations will begin at 6:30. more
 

TSCRA Director Bill White testifies on prescribed burning
TSCRA Director Bill White of Stowell, Texas, testified in front of the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission at the State Capitol in Austin
today, Apr. 22. White's testimony dealt with the Commission's review of the Prescribed Burning Board, under the jurisdiction of Texas Department of Agriculture. more
 

EU proposes further easing of BSE restrictions on use of beef on the bone
The European Commission on Tuesday proposed a further easing of European Union (EU) BSE, or mad cow disease, restrictions on the use of beef on the bone. If approved by EU governments, the changes would raise the age limit at which the spine must be removed from slaughtered cattle. The EU executive says, based on recent scientific research, it is now safe to increase the age from 24 to 30 months. more
 

AgriLife Extension veterinary camp readies for sixth year
The West Texas Youth Veterinary Science Workshop, open to all Texas youth, will be held June 29 - July 3 at the Tom Green County 4-H Center in San Angelo. Enrollment is limited to 30 students, but participants from across Texas are welcome to attend. They must be of high school age, have an interest in veterinary science and be willing to work in teams. more
 

TDA Market Recap, (4-21-08)
For the week ending April 19, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were mixed, mostly steady to 5.00 per hundred-weight higher, with few sale barns steady to 5.00 lower.  Fed cattle prices were mostly 3.00 higher. As for futures markets, both feeder and fed cattle futures rebounded somewhat and closed higher for the week. more
 

ERRATA: Correction to the Dimmit, Maverick and Web fever tick quarantine zone
In an article released by the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) Thursday, April 17, a typographical error resulted in the inaccurate description of the temporary fever tick quarantine zone for Dimmit, Webb and Maverick counties. Only a small area of the temporary fever tick quarantine zone near Carrizo Springs has been excluded from the zone. more
